“Birth isn't something we suffer, but something we actively do and exult in."
- Sheila Kitzinger -
My philosophy centers on empowering my clients to trust their own bodies and intuition. I encourage them to connect with their inner guidance, which is central to the birthing process and to parenting. While I’m here to listen and support, I believe that my clients hold the true power.
Amal (Ah-muLL) means hope in Arabic. Amoula (Am-Moo-LAh) is what my close friends and family call me!
After I gave birth the first time, there was a lot I didn’t know, so many things were happening to my body I didn’t understand. No one really told me what to expect while I was going through fertility treatment, pregnancy, birth or postpartum. The doctors who were my main source only shared brief information, I didn’t know I had options or that I should be presented with more than one, I didn’t know how to ask for more or that I had the right to.
When I got pregnant the second time, I thought having gone through it once was enough and I know it all, not realizing each pregnancy, even when carried by the same body, is totally different. After my second birth I learned there is information out there for people, but it should be more accessible to help them prepare, be a guide throughout their own – unique to their body – pre and post-natal journey, because even though we have been giving birth since the start of time, the commonality of the act does not make it easier with time.
After 12 weeks of classes with Birthing Advocacy, I learned about reproductive justice and the enormous support a doula can play for a client. I am here to advocate for your rights and needs, support you by making sure you have access to all the information needed to make the best decision for yourself. I hold no bias and no judgment. We all have the right to do what is right for our bodies at any given moment, and I will be there to help and stand by you when you do just that.
